Sicurezza in montagna: crowdfunding per l’App MountaiNow

Il Progetto


"Un Servizio Innovativo per Condividere la conoscenza delle Condizioni Aggiornate della Montagna utilizzando carte di nuova generazione ogni giorno dell'anno, dappertutto nelle Alpi."
E' l'obiettivo del progetto MountaiNow creato da Alexia Massacand, Senior Expert in Sustainability and Climate Change, e per il quale è stata adottata la tecnologia geoSDI.

MountaiNow nasce quindi con lo spirito rendere più facili e più sicure le escursioni in montagna - lavorando insieme e fornendo un complemento di informazione cruciale a tutti i Clubs Alpini così come a tutti i siti web di supporto come Camp-to-Camp, la Chamoniarde (OHM), GeoResQ, Gipfelbuch, Gulliver, Outdooractive) così da rendere la preparazione delle uscite sul campo più semplici e più efficaci per l’utente.

L'adozione delle tecnologie open source geoSDI


Da tempo infatti Alexia Massacand è in contatto con il Team del Laboratorio geoSDI per conoscere ed applicare le tecnologie di gestione delle informazioni geo-localizzate in vari ambiti scientifici.
L'idea di questo progetto nasce in Alexia "zigzagando tra i (nuovi) giganteschi crepacci che si erano manifestati in montagna la scorsa estate", e nella sua mente è parso istantaneamente come un fantastico campo di applicazione delle tecnologie geoSDI, in modo assolutamente gratuito per tutti i fruitori del servizio e gli appassionati della montagna.

Attraverso gli smartphones, in pochi secondi, gli appassionati della montagna condividono ciò che vedono durante le proprie escursioni,  per rafforzare la sicurezza di quanti la frequentano. Una “carta viva”, alimentata istantaneamente dalle informazioni fornite da chi è in montagna, che fornisce “le ultime condizioni” dappertutto sulle Alpi, includendo foto e segnali di allarme geo-localizzati. 

Il CrowdFunding


Una campagna di CrowdFunding è stata avviata sulla piattaforma Ulule.com per sostenere lo sviluppo del progetto. Sono anche previste delle ricompense per i contributors: dalla semplice inclusione nella pagina "Ringraziamenti" del Sito del Progetto (per il contributo minimo di 5 €) ai gadget per contributi fino a poche centinaia di Euro, a "Un giorno a sorpresa nelle Alpi", riservato a i sostenitori che daranno contributi superiori a 2000€.



 Il laboratorio geoSDI è felice di promuovere questa raccolta di fondi, per un progetto che porta i risultati della ricerca ( in open source) verso nobili campi di applicazione.

The project


"An Innovative Service for Sharing knowledge of the updated Terms of Mountain using new generation cards every day of the year, everywhere in the Alps."
This is the aim of the project MountaiNow created by Alexia Massacand, Senior Expert in Sustainability and Climate Change, and for which geoSDI technology was adopted.

MountaiNow born with the spirit to make outings’ preparation always easier and more efficient - bringing a new generation of information and working together with Alpine Clubs as well asexisting mountain tools like Camp-to-Camp, la Chamoniarde (OHM), Hikr, GeoResQ, Gipfelbuch, Gulliver, and Outdooractive.

The adoption of open source technologies by geoSDI

Since long time Alexia Massacand is in contact with the geoSDI Laboratory Team to learn about  the geo-localized information management technologies and to apply them in various scientific fields.
The idea of ​​this project was born in Alexia "slaloming (new) giant crevasses that had occurred in the mountains last summer", and in her mind it seemed instantly as a fantastic scope of geoSDI technologies, absolutely free of charge for all users of the service and mountain lovers.


Through smartphones, in seconds, mountain lovers sharing what they see during their excursions, to strengthen the safety of those who attend it. A "living map", instantly fed from the information provided by those who are in the mountains, which provides "the ultimate conditions" all over the Alps, including photos and geo-localized warning.


The CrowdFunding

A Crowdfunding campaign was launched on the Ulule.com platform to support the development of the project. Rewards are also provided for contributors: from the simple inclusion in the "Thank-you" of the Project Site (for the minimum contribution of 5 €) to gadgets for contributions up to a few hundred euros, to "A surprise day in the Alps" , reserved for supporters who give contributions in excess of € 2,000.



The geoSDI Laboratory is happy to promote this fundraiser, for a project that takes the search results (in open source) to the noble fields of application.

Il ruolo di geoSDI nella UN OpenGIS initiative

La Geospatial Information Section (UNGIS) e  l'Information and Communications Technology Division (ICTD) dello United Nations Department of Field Support (DFS) hanno deciso di perseguire gli sforzi necessari per identificare il ruolo che le  tecnologie geospaziali open source potrebbero svolgere a sostegno delle operazioni di pace delle Nazioni Unite, chiamando l'iniziativa UN OpenGIS. 
L'iniziativa  mira a sviluppare un sistema GIS enterprise utilizzando le soluzioni geospaziali libere ed open source a sostegno delle operazioni di pace delle Nazioni Unite.


Al fine di trasformare le idee e concetti in azioni concrete e di federare gli sforzi, un seminario tecnico di 5 giorni (6-10 Marzo 2016) è stato organizzato presso la United Nations Logistics Base  (UNLB) in Brindisi, con la partecipazione attiva di esperti degli Stati Membri, le organizzazioni del mondo accademico e professionale, e le agenzie delle Nazioni Unite insieme a esperti GIS da operazioni di pace dell'ONU.

geoSDI, come Laboratorio del Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR) e Centro di Competenza per le Spatial Data Infrastructures, ha preso parte alla delegazione Italiana, partecipando agli incontri di pianificazione e mostrando esempi operativi di sistemi sviluppati con il framework Geo-Platform, come il Sistema Informativo Territoriale del Dipartimento della Protezione Civile della Presidenza del Consiglio dei Ministri in Italia e la Consolle di Early Warning per rischio Metereologico, sismico e incendi a supporto del WFP in Palestina.

Scopo dell'iniziativa OpenGIS delle Nazioni Unite è quello di individuare e sviluppare un pacchetto GIS Open Source che soddisfi i requisiti delle operazioni delle Nazioni Unite, sfruttando appieno le competenze dei partner  (nazioni partner, partners tecnologici, organizzazioni internazionali, Università, ONG, settore privato).

Il Laboratorio geoSDI è dunque parte del gruppo di lavoro, in particolare per il task di definizione e implementazione della piattaforma di content management, data sharing, geospatial data visualization e access management, da progettare in piena interoperabilità e compatibilità con i sistemi già esistenti presso gli uffici e le agenzie UN.

The Geospatial Information Section (UNGIS) and the Information and Communications Technology Division (ICTD) of the United Nations Department of Field Support (DFS) decided to pursue the necessary efforts to identify the role that open source geospatial technologies could play in support of peacekeeping operations of the United Nations, calling the initiative UN OpenGIS.
The initiative aims to develop an enterprise GIS system using geospatial free and open source solutions, in support of United Nations peacekeeping operations.

In order to turn ideas and concepts into concrete actions and to federate efforts, a 5-day technical seminar (6-10 March 2016) was organized at the United Nations Logistics Base (UNLB) in Brindisi, with the active participation of experts from Member States, the academic and professional organizations, and UN agencies along with GIS experts from the UN peacekeeping operations.

geoSDI, as laboratory of the National Council of Research of Italy (CNR) and the Competence Centre for Spatial Data Infrastructures, took part in the Italian delegation, participating in the planning meetings and showing examples of operating systems developed with Geo-Platform framework, such as the Geographic Information System of the Department of Civil Protection of the Prime Minister's Office in Italy and the Early Warning Console for Meteorological, Seismic and Fires risks, to support WFP in Palestine.

The aim of the OpenGIS the United Nations is to identify and develop a GIS Open Source package that meets the requirements of United Nations operations, taking full advantage of the expertise of partners (partner nations, technological partners, international organizations, universities, NGOs, industry private).

The Laboratory geoSDI is therefore part of the working group, particularly the task of defining and implementing the content management platform, data sharing, geospatial data visualization and access management, to plan for full interoperability and compatibility with existing systems at the offices and UN agencies.

M.I.T.O. - Evento Conclusivo ISPRA

Il 31 Marzo 2016, ospitato presso la sala conferenze della sede Unicef di Roma, si è tenuto il workshop "La partecipazione pubblica al monitoraggio ambientale: la rete SINAnet e il contributo del progetto MITO" organizzato dall' Istituto Superiore per la Protezione e la Ricerca Ambientale (ISPRA) a conclusione del progetto M.I.T.O. (Multimedia Information for Territorial Objects).


Il Presidente dell'ISPRA Bernardo De Bernardinis ha ringraziato il CNR e il laboratorio geoSDI che "ha preso parte al progetto dando gli input per la realizzazione della piattaforma". Come ha ribadito poi Valter Sambucini, responsabile ISPRA del progetto MITO, elemento fondamentale nella realizzazione del progetto è stato "l'adozione di Geo-Platform e delle tecnologie geoSDI che hanno fornito il motore della piattaforma nella direzione di integrazione di informazioni da sorgenti scientifiche validate e dalle sorgenti diffuse della citizen science".

Il progetto ha visto la realizzazione di una rete di laboratori specializzati nella gestione di infrastrutture per l’informazione territoriale – come definite nel decreto legislativo 27 gennaio 2010, n. 32 (Attuazione della direttiva 2007/2/CE, che istituisce un'infrastruttura per l'informazione territoriale nella Comunità europea - INSPIRE).  Più in dettaglio, il Progetto MITO assume come orizzonte operativo quello della conservazione digitale di lungo periodo (long term digital preservation) delle conoscenze territoriali ed in particolare dei prodotti/risultati (anche intermedi) delle attività di ricerca, attraverso l’utilizzo di soluzioni standard aperte, utilizzabili in un quadro di cooperazione con altre istituzioni nazionali e in coerenza con le raccomandazioni di Horizon 2020. I Soggetti Attuatori del Progetto MITO sono stati l'Istituto Superiore per la Protezione e la Ricerca Ambientale (ISPRA), il Politecnico di Bari, l'Università Parthenope di Napoli, l' Università degli Studi di Napoli “Federico Il”, l'Università degli Studi di Salerno, la Seconda Università degli Studi di Napoli.
Tutti i partner del progetto hanno colto l'occasione dell'evento organizzato da ISPRA per presentare i risultati applicativi raggiunti grazie all'adozione della piattaforma.
A seguito dei momenti illustrativi, un dibattito è stato aperto guardando al futuro, partendo dall'intervento di Dimitri Dello Buono sulle emanazioni che l'adozione delle tecnologie opensource ha già provocato in contesti Locali, Nazionali e Internazionali.
Alcuni esempi sono il progetto i.TER della Regione Campania (Anagrafe delle entità e degli eventi territoriali),  l'aggiornamento e l'integrazione con i risultati di M.I.T.O. del sistema SITDPC, Sistema Informativo Territoriale del Dipartimento della Protezione Civile, l'impiego dei framework cui M.I.T.O. ha contribuito nei Piani Nazionali per la Ricerca Militare (PNRM), l'adozione di tecnologie di interoperabilità di servizi e archiviazione NoSQL in sistemi di Early Warning sviluppati in collaborazione con le Nazioni Unite.








March 31, 2016,  the conference hall of the UNICEF office in Rome, hosted the workshop "Public participation in environmental monitoring: the SINAnet network and the contribution of the MITO project" organized by the 'Institute for Protection and Research environmental (Ispra) at the conclusion of the project MITO (Multimedia Information for Territorial Objects).

The President of ISPRA Bernardo De Bernardinis thanked the CNR and the geoSDI laboratory that "took part in the project by giving inputs for the building of the platform." How then reiterated Valter Sambucini, responsible of the MITO project for ISPRA, a key element in the realization of the project was "the adoption of Geo-Platform and geoSDI technology that provided the engine of the platform in the direction of integration of information from scientific validated sources and from diffuse sources of citizen science".

The project has seen the creation of a network of laboratories specializing in the management of infrastructures for spatial information - as defined in the Legislative Decree 27 January 2010, n. 32 (Implementation of Directive 2007/2 / EC establishing an Infrastructure for Spatial Information in Europe - INSPIRE). More specifically, the project MITO assumes as an operating horizon that of long-term digital preservation of local knowledge and in particular of the products / results of research activities, through the use of open  and standard solutions, usable in a framework of cooperation with other national institutions and in line with the recommendations of Horizon 2020.  MITO Project Partners were the Institute for Environmental Protection and Research (ISPRA), the Polytechnic of Bari, Parthenope University of Naples, the University of Naples "Federico II", the University of Salerno, the Second University of Naples.
All project partners have taken the opportunity of the event organized by ISPRA to present the results achieved with the adoption of the platform.
Following the illustrative moments, a debate was opened looking to the future, starting by the intervention of Dimitri Dello Buono on the emanations that the adoption of open source technologies has already caused in Local, National and International contexts.
Examples include I.ter project in Campania Region (Registry of entities and territorial events), the update and the integration with the results of M.I.T.O. of SITDPC system, the Department of Civil Protection Geographic Information System, the use of the framework contribution in the National Plans of Military Research (PNRM), the adoption of interoperable technologies services and NoSQL storage in Early Warning Systems developed in collaboration with the United Nations.
